If you've been paying any attention to the headlines over the weekend, the gloom-and-doom scenario has hit the front page of our news outlets. What the scenario is all about is: what choices are we going to make as humans for our own benefit?
It's important to really understand and look at this conversation in this way because, at its core, that's what it's all about. When you consider all the advancements we have at our fingertips today, how has the prospect of how we actually treat each other as humans improved? Do we spend more time forming stronger relationships with each other, having real conversations that have meaning, making the time to think about our own health, and what we eat? These are all important things that feed into this idea of what we consider to be important.
Now it's important to understand: I am a really big fan of AI but I also understand that we still are truly humans. Many times we make really bad decisions based on our own perspective, which is really quite narrow, many times much narrower than we think, no matter how many degrees we have, no matter how many things we've accomplished in life.
I think the perfect example would be: what type of intelligence do you need to cause a country to change the way it thinks about other human beings? I think the type of intelligence that you need to have would be similar to that of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. The reason I phrase it in that way is that today we don't measure that type of intelligence. We don't value that type of intelligence. What we value is the level of intelligence that is actually pulling us further away from having and making our own decision to decide that we're actually going to spend more time getting to know each other, forming stronger relationships, and becoming a better society (just through that, regardless of if we have technology or not).
But let me get back to the point. With AI there are going to be evil actors who know how to use AI at a very advanced level. There are also going to be purpose-driven and people-driven actors whose level of knowledge related to the use of AI, as it stands today, is probably more limited than it needs to be.
The reason I phrase it in that way is that if you consider yourself on the purpose and people-driven side of that equation, the best thing that you could do today is:
- Spend more time with the ones you love
- Keep developing those stronger relationships
- Understand how this new tool called AI can be used by you
Because that, magnified, is a very, very powerful thing.
This is our open call. Voice Up Publishing exists to put that same power — the power of a clearly told, purpose-driven human story — into the hands of the people who need it most. If you are on the purpose and people-driven side of this equation, we invite you to join us.
