Our Mission

We connect people to purpose.

Voice Up is a social-impact organization. Our primary goal is to help people recognize how their lived experiences, talents, interests, and motivations can accelerate them toward the right career pathway — one that allows them to benefit the people and communities they care about most.

Voice Up begins with a simple idea: people often already possess experiences, abilities, and insights that could make a meaningful difference. What they may not yet have is a way to recognize those strengths, name their purpose, and connect that purpose to a career.

That is where Voice Up begins.

Four Questions That Start the Journey

1

What have I experienced?

2

What talents and strengths do I possess?

3

Who do I most want to benefit?

4

What career pathway would allow me to use my experiences and abilities to help them?

Those answers become the foundation for a personalized pathway.

The Five-Step Voice Up Journey

Every participant begins by completing the five-step journey. Each step builds on the previous one — together they help Voice Up understand the whole person.

1

Official Sign-Up and Registration

You introduce who you are, where you are in your journey, and why you are interested in Voice Up. This begins a relationship based on reflection, consistency, and meaningful participation.

2

Find Your Purpose and Elevate Your Impact

You learn about Voice Up and begin reflecting on who you are, what has shaped you, what motivates you, what problems matter to you, and what kind of difference you want to make.

3

Complete the Well-Being Assessment

You complete the assessment that best fits your current stage. It helps Voice Up understand your well-being, sense of direction, personal goals, and readiness for the next stage.

4

Share Your Talents

You identify your abilities, interests, strengths, and personal qualities — listening, writing, leadership, research, creativity, advocacy, storytelling, caregiving, and more.

5

"Do You Have That Fire?"

You identify the issue, population, or cause that creates a deep sense of motivation — and connect your lived experience and talents to the people you most want to benefit.

What Happens After the Five Steps?

Voice Up develops a personalized guide for your first eight weeks — bringing together four essential elements:

Lived experience

Individual talents

Career pathway

People to benefit

You then work within a safe and collaborative community supported by a dedicated mentor, weekly conversations, reflection, constructive feedback, applied learning, and collaboration with other participants.

Your pathway may become an internship, fellowship, research project, health program, book, digital platform, public-awareness campaign, policy project, or community initiative.

Featured Fellowship

The Purpose and Public Health Media Fellowship

A purpose-driven media fellowship where students connect public health stories to their communities — turning lived experience into reporting, media, and advocacy that helps people live healthier lives.

Three People, One Voice Up Process

No two Voice Up pathways are identical because no two people bring the same combination of experiences, talents, goals, and communities.

Dr. Sahitya Kommuru

Health Experience → PCOS Guide

"I just want to create a guidebook where people can access a lot of resources."

Health experience and medical preparation → Clinical and public health research → Accessible health education → Support for people living with PCOS

Kierra Thompson

Military Service → Family Advocacy

"Being part of Voice Up has taken the project further than what I could have done by myself."

Motherhood and military service → Advocacy and systems navigation → Support for military families → Community program development

Emily Metheny

Childhood Anxiety → Children's Book

"I wrote a children's book I wished I had as a child dealing with anxiety."

Childhood anxiety → Teaching and storytelling → Children's mental health literacy → Educational publishing

Purpose Becomes Action

Lived experience becomes insight.

Insight reveals talent.

Talent connects to purpose.

Purpose guides a career pathway.

The career pathway creates something that benefits others.

Voice Up in One Sentence

"Voice Up listens carefully to who a person is, helps that person recognize the professional value of lived experience, and creates a personalized pathway through which the person can build the right career while benefiting the people they care about most."
